New Zealand’s America’s Cup teams have been perfecting winning crew combinations since 1988. Over the years, the many team roles have adapted to new styles of racing, innovative design and the increased role of technology. More recently, team members have provided experience not just from various types of competitive sailing but from other sports such as rowing and cycling.
During training and racing, skippers, navigators, tacticians, trimmers, grinders, cyclors, pitmen, mastmen, riggers and others work onboard to ensure the boats perform on the day. Offshore, an even bigger group of professionals complete the team, including designers, boat builders, logistics, accountants, meteorologists, shore crew, technicians and managers.
